Busting Sex Myths: Unveiling the truth about sex | Durex India

Sex as a subject has the ability to make most people tongue-tied. And yet, there are so many unanswered questions about so many sex-related issues. So we attempt to bust some myths about sex so that you can get to the truth – starting with…

I'm not normal
People have tremendous insecurities about their bodies. Hairy nipples, sagging breasts, lopsided testicles – everyone has something they don’t like about their bodies. Besides, every person has a set idea of what they find sexy and in whom. The good news is, there are many others who like you, are too shy to discuss these concerns openly. Relax, you are normal and it is fine to have a few quirks as well!

You can't get pregnant if you have sex standing up/on your period/the first time you have sex
The truth is, you risk getting pregnant every time you have sex, whether standing on your feet or on your head! So practice safe sex every single time, unless you want to have a baby. Sperm are hardy and can survive inside the woman’s womb for several days, and it takes just one to get pregnant. Use a male or female condom every time you have sex. It protects against unwanted pregnancy and even a range of Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs). You can also use them with other forms of contraception, so that you are extra protected.

If you love someone, you have to have sex
There is no need to have sex to prove that you love somebody. If a partner insists that you have sex to prove your love – even before you are ready to do so – they are not showing you love but disrespect. Every person takes their own time to be ready for sex, so take it slow and don’t pressure your partner/let your partner pressurise you.

A man will die from a dry spell if he doesn't have sex
Regular sex is great, but lack of it is not harmful to both men and women. Lack of sex might make you irritable, tense or aroused, but there will be no physical damage. Masturbation can relieve the pent-up sexual frustration in the absence of a partner.
